Hermes has loosened up a bit in recent years in
order to highlight the brand’s relationship with its materials and
manufacturing and the craftsmanship necessary to create one of its bags in Hermes Birkin Bags
online store, which includes occasionally letting in bloggers and photographers
like Shini Park of Park & Cube to view and photograph their process.
We
recently pointed you toward photos from inside Chanel and Valentino, but today, we have something
truly special to show you by way of Park & Cube: the Hermes Atelier Sacs,
where the brand’s handbags are made. All by itself, an average Hermes Birkin can be a very difficult bag to get
your hands on. An ostrich Birkin? Even harder. An ostrich Birkin from the
closet of a star? Nearly impossible. An ostrich lady Hermes Birkin from Kelly
Rutherford’s personal Hermes Wallets collection,
which she also immortalized on film in an episode? Luxury brands are secretive
beasts by nature; they need an air of mystery and wonderment in order to
maintain the exclusivity that’s necessary for consumer interest.
In
the past few years, though, the Internet has blown the doors off some of the
industry’s most important ateliers and provided consumers with a peek at the
process by which their favorite lady Hermes bags are made. Park did an
absolutely beautiful job capturing not only how the lady Hermes bags are made,
but also the personality of the atelier and the final display of the products
at retail. We’ve included a few of our favorite shots of the manufacturing
process after the jump.
